49-Year-Old MaleDiagnosis: Chronic right shoulder pain.Patient history: Insidious onset of right shoulder pain 5 years prior. Pain is worse after vigorous activity or exercise. Patient had consulted several physicians, had negative x-ray, negative MRI findings, and was treated with anti-inflammatory medication. Significant findings: Patient presented with moderate limitation in right shoulder flexion and abduction, with deltoid pain at end ROM. Strength in right shoulder was WNL. Right upper trapezius and levator scapula muscles were hypertonic and tender to palpation. Intervention: Patient was treated for one visit of Strain/Counterstrain only. Outcome: Patient reported being symptom free after one visit, and resumed a full regimen of vigorous exercise, without complaint. Patient reported 10 months later that he remained symptom free. |
